THE boss of a Burton-based business has raised £200 for the league of friends at Burton's Queen's Hospital by taking part in the now-famous ice bucket challenge.
Karl Hunter, founder and manager at HFE Signs, accepted the challenge after he was nominated by friends, and rather than donating to the Motor Neurone Disease Association as others have decided to collect sponsorship for the local charity.
He chose to donate to the hospital to say thank you for the treatment which his daughter received when she was taken there as a baby.
He said: "Some time ago our youngest daughter had severe chickenpox.
She was almost 21 months old at the time and her temperature rose to just above 40 degrees. The doctors were quite worried and one of the nurses on the children's ward said she had never seen chickenpox that bad before.
Obviously this was a difficult time for us and, at one point, we did fear the worst.
All the staff were great and within 48 hours she was improving.
I feel a small donation of £200 to the hospital for my ice bucket challenge goes no way to show our gratitude, but every little adds up, and having seen some of the work done by the volunteers that run the league of friends it makes me feel happy to choose their charity as my ice bucket charity."
The challenge has become an internet sensation and has boosted the association's funds by millions.
